- The State of Israel is a country in West Asia; it shares land borders with Lebanon and Syria to the north, Jordan on the east, the Palestinian territories (which are claimed by the State of Palestine and are partially controlled by Israel) to the east and west, and Egypt to the southwest. It borders with Mediterranean Sea to the west. Its capital city, Jerusalem, is unrecognised by the United Nations; Israel's financial and diplomatic center is Tel Aviv.
