- The Republic of Burundi is a country located in Eastern Africa. It is bordered by Rwanda to the north, Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west and Tanzania to the east and south. It is a landlocked country, but it is adjacent to Lake Tanganyika. Burundi was a European colony, first of Germany and then of Belgium. It became indipendent in 1962.
