The Republic of Niger, is a landlocked country in Western Africa. It borders Algeria and Lybia to the north, Chad to the east, Nigeria and Benin to the south, Burkina Faso and Mali to the west. The country name originates from the Niger river.
Until 1960 Niger was part of the French Western Africa; nowaday it is a semi-presidential republic.
